Fermented kefir water is a new thing to us so we were intrigued to read about PiQi’s new range of soaps made with it, especially as these luxurious soaps are also 100% natural, vegan and free from palm oil.
As experts in fermented water kefir, having launched their award-winning PiQi brand of kefir in 2021, founders Aksana Fitzpatrick and Nick Young wanted to expand the benefits of fermentation into skincare.
Water kefir is a raw fermented, probiotic beverage traditionally consumed for its health benefits. Naturally packed with nutrients, it contains live probiotic cultures (mainly LAB – lactic acid bacteria) and organic acids, which are good for gut health and skin health alike.
PiQi’s new soaps are based on nourishing olive oil and water kefir. The fermented probiotic water kefir naturally contains organic acids including gluconic and lactic acids, which act as gentle exfoliants helping remove dead skin cells and stimulate cell renewal, leaving skin feeling hydrated, smooth and refreshed. They are gentle, creamy and moisturising, perfect for all skin types, as well as being suitable for both face and body.
Many people associate kefir with dairy products, but water kefir provides a sustainable vegan alternative – combined with the fact that PiQi’s kefir soaps are palm oil free and handcrafted in Devon, it means that they are also a planet-friendly option.
Co-founder Aksana said: “We are so excited to be expanding our range into skincare. Water kefir is such a wonderful, healthy and versatile product, we’re loving that the benefits of fermentation can now be felt and seen on the outside, as well as being so good for you on the inside.”
The water kefir soaps are available in three different scents – Lavender & Lemongrass, Orange & Spice, and Unscented – with Charcoal & Tea Tree and Green Clay scents launching in late March 2023.
