My best experiences of products specially formulated for blonde hair have come from the John Frieda range for blonde hair, so Pro:Voke had a lot to live up to.
After my questioning of the name “Silver Brightening Shampoo” and whether it was suitable for bright-blonde me or just the purple-rinse brigade, I was ready give the Silver Brightening Shampoo a try…
I had bit of a surprise when I poured this into my hand – the dark purple colour is very unusual, but purple is a common shade for blonde brightening products as it is believed to eliminate brassiness and scary yellow tones.
It’s quite a runny liquid, which on first application didn’t foam up as much as I’d hoped – my hair was particularly dirty that first day so it was always going to need a second wash, but on subsequent washes I have found I need two applications for hair to feel really clean.
With two applications it cleanses very well indeed and leaves had feeling super-soft, but a little fly-away – I did have some trouble styling afterwards, needing some serum or a styling spritz when often I don’t require it.
Colour-wise I didn’t see a dramatic change, but over the week I did notice less and less brassiness.
I quite like this shampoo for the support it gives to coloured hair, but the difficulty with styling afterwards would put me off buying it. If you have medium-to-thick hair you will perhaps not experience this, so if brassiness is what you need to combat you’ll find this worth a try – especially as it’s only £3.99 for 150ml.
